I am sometimes visiting this museum and always wondering why so fewer tourists are visiting this amazing open-air museum.
Edo-Tokyo Open-air Architectural Museum located in Koganeipark on the west side of Tokyo.
Koganei Park is famous for its cherry blossoms. people come to see the cherries in the spring and colored leaves in the fall.
Edo-Tokyo Open-air Architectural Museum is very interesting. It looks like a duplicate of the old village from Edo period. It has beautiful historical houses on display and you can see how Japan developed.
The museum is divided up into three area and visiting all the buildings will take about half a day.
Each building has information in English and Some of the Japanese guides speak English.
2001 Japanese animated fantasy film, “Spirited Away” is a written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, animated by Studio Ghibli. Hayao Miyazaki used the Edo-Tokyo Open-air Architectural Museum as inspiration for Spirited Away.
If you watch this anime “Spirited Away”, you’ll enjoy more and more.
This is definitely a hidden gem of an experience in Tokyo.
